This week has been really hot. I am sure it is not as hot as Peten but it is hot. I would just kill for some AC. We found a new family to teach this week. They are old investigators from almost a year ago. Maybe this time around they will hear us out. We are also trying to put up two baptism dates this week. We will see how it goes. I'm very excited to see what happens. We are working really hard and trying to be very diligent.
This week was tough! It was semana santa, which is like easter for a whole week where no one works, but no one is home. Everyone goes on vacations.
I almost got killed by a huge snake this week. My companion and I were walking through the weeds by an irrigation canal midday. And out of no where my companion began to run and scream and I didn't have a clue why....then I looked and there was a giant snake next to my foot. I screamed like a little girl! My companion said that as I ran away that it tried to bite me, but missed me by just a few inches. It came after us and could lunge towards us about 3 feet. Then we began to throw rocks at it, people saw us fighting this snake and they tried to help us, but it escaped by swimming in the canal. I've never been so close to a snake like that in my life. We were thinking about what would have happened if it had bitten one of us. I'm just so nervous while we walk near that area now. Aww It was so terrifying. We are just on edge all the time now when were are around that area. I couldn't believe how big it was. God had to have protected us because it was seriously one foot away from my foot. Oh how I would love to have a pic of that monster!
We also had two baptism dates fall through this week. So sad. They just didn't go to church! We hope that this week will be a lot better.
I know that this is Gods work and that he is constantly guiding us.
Drew did not send a regular weekly letter because they didn't have enough internet time. So I am sharing a few things that he talked to me about that I think is interesting:
I'm doing great. Sorry I couldn't write yesterday. We had to go to Guatemala City to sign papers for my companion's visa. We got back really late. But good news is that while we were in the city I went to Walmart!! It was the first time I have seen a Walmart in 20 months!! I bought Chex Mix!!! They also had a lot of other good stuff from the states, but I didn't want to spend a ton of money. Mom, I didn't even look for cheezits. I was SO mad. We were on the bus going back to our area and it hit me! "I went to Walmart and I didn't even look for Cheezits!!"
It's a 3 hours bus ride. Its terrible because it is the most zig-zaggy bus ride in the world! Oh we left a 3:30 am. I didn't get to sleep all night because I was up talking with my zone leaders and then when we left I couldn't sleep on the bus, because the bus was full. I had to sit on a bucket in the aisle of the bus. But some people even have to ride standing for the whole three hours. One time in Peten I was on a bus for an hour and a half standing and I puked when I jumped out of the bus.
So, not typical email from Drew but still entertaining. :)
This was a very great week. We got to have interviews with President Curtiss. I always enjoy talking to him. I always learn a ton. Elder Herrera is progressing and learning a ton. Sometimes I feel like I learn more from training than the person who is being trained. We also put up two new baptism dates this week. One is with a lady named Macedonia who has three kids and no husband. They all showed up to the church to watch the conference. I loved general conference. I cannot believe that it was my last conference in the mission. I'm going to miss the feeling of conference as a missionary.
I know that this is the Lords work and that we are helping his children come unto him.
